mortal Guardian's Guide
Intro to Our World
Step into the hero’s shoes, and immerse yourself in the epic world of demigod adventures! Has this ever happened to you? You pick your demigod up from camp and ask them, “How was your day?” “It was fun!” is all they reply, and then they ask you what’s for dinner. Little did you know, your demigod was just the hero of an epic Quest full of powerful monsters, magical mayhem, mystical secrets, and legendary battles! So that’s where we come in: Use this Guide to help bridge the gap and dig deeper to uncover more about your demigod’s heroic adventures!
Types of Demigods
These are some of the types of gods and goddesses your demigod might discover a connection to. This list only includes a few examples! These types also aren't mutually exclusive - most gods represent multiple things! Apollo is a god of music and the sun and archery. Odin is a warrior and wise. Your demigod might like video games, reading, and playing outside, and they might connect with more than one type. Use the suggested stories here and in the Demigod Digital Guide to explore their heroic identity!
Demigod Adventure Prep
As your summer adventures approach, we want you to be prepared for whatever challenges may lie ahead! The videos and readings here should get you started.
We have camps all over the USA, so demigods in different areas may be facing different perils! Which monsters and what mayhem do you think are most likely to pop up in your corner of the mortal world?
The Quests
Once you know what Quest your demigod braved at camp, find more videos, readings, and other media about it here!
For each one, we’ve created one MEGA-MYTHIC resource guide, a one-stop-shop for all the characters, stories, and cultures of the Quest. But, we’ve also created individual guides for individual characters and important pieces of the story.
- What was the first thing you noticed that made it seem like something strange was going on?
- Did you find anything or meet anyone while scouting?
- If a person or monster: What were they like? Did you trust them? Did they want anything from you or want your help? Did you have to fight them?
- If a thing: What did you think it might be at first? Did your fellow demigods have any other ideas? Did it remind you of any stories?
- Did you receive a prophecy during the week?
- How did you get it? (Might be delivered by an Oracle, left as a note, or something more mysterious!)
- What clues did you find in it before the Quest started?
- Was there anything in it that only made sense during or after the Quest?
- How did the Quest day start? Did anyone come to camp?
- Did they attack? Did they have information for you? Did they ask for your help?
- Where did you go when you left camp?
- Who did you meet along the way?
- Did you need to get anything from them?
- Did you have to fight them?
- Did you have to do any magic?
- Was there a battle?
- What was your role? Were you fighting? Did you help with strategy? Did you help with magic or healing?
- Which person or creature that you met did you like best? Why? Did you get the chance to talk to them?
- Were there any people or creatures that scared you?
- Were there any that surprised you – like you thought they might be mean at first, but they turned out to be cool?
- What was your favorite thing that you did during the Quest?
Terms To Know
In mythology, demigods like Hercules and Helen of Sparta were born to a human parent and a god, but in the modern age, we’re a bit looser with the term, using it to describe all those with a connection beyond the mortal world. Your demigod might feel a connection to a deity, a nature spirit like a nymph or a mermaid, or a hero of ancient lore!
And don’t worry–there’s a lot more to demigodhood than genetics! Just because a child finds out they’re descended from Apollo or Anansi doesn’t mean they aren’t still part of their mortal family.
At camp, your demigod will become part of a special group. If they’re in a Cabin, they’ve been placed with other demigods who share a connection to the same deity–or, at least, one close to it! If they’re in a Hometown, they’re representing one of the cultural centers of the ancient Mediterranean. This group is who your demigod spends the most time with at camp–their cohort for explorations, their teammates for the Olympics, and their comrades-in-arms during Quests!
Every hero needs one! When demigods gather in one place, it just seems to attract mythical trouble. Campers become the heroes of multi-day adventures. Their decisions shape the story as they search for mystical artifacts, face down legendary monsters, and protect the world from villainous plots.
Your demigod will begin getting hints about the week’s Quest early in the week. They might discover strange flyers posted at a camp or find pieces of an artifact in the woods. They might meet a mystic figure who gives them information, or they might have to fend off a monster ambush! They’ll receive a prophecy, maybe directly from an Oracle or maybe through some other means, and eventually, they will be called to action!
