mortal Guardian's Guide

Step into the hero’s shoes, and immerse yourself in the epic world of demigod adventures!

Types of Demigods

These are some of the types of gods and goddesses your demigod might discover a connection to. This list only includes a few examples! These types also aren't mutually exclusive - most gods represent multiple things! Apollo is a god of music and the sun and archery. Odin is a warrior and wise. Your demigod might like video games, reading, and playing outside, and they might connect with more than one type. Use the suggested stories here and in the Demigod Digital Guide to explore their heroic identity!

Terms To Know

Demigod

In mythology, demigods like Hercules and Helen of Sparta were born to a human parent and a god, but in the modern age, we’re a bit looser with the term, using it to describe all those with a connection beyond the mortal world. Your demigod might feel a connection to a deity, a nature spirit like a nymph or a mermaid, or a hero of ancient lore!

And don’t worry–there’s a lot more to demigodhood than genetics! Just because a child finds out they’re descended from Apollo or Anansi doesn’t mean they aren’t still part of their mortal family.

Cabin/Hometown

At camp, your demigod will become part of a special group. If they’re in a Cabin, they’ve been placed with other demigods who share a connection to the same deity–or, at least, one close to it! If they’re in a Hometown, they’re representing one of the cultural centers of the ancient Mediterranean. This group is who your demigod spends the most time with at camp–their cohort for explorations, their teammates for the Olympics, and their comrades-in-arms during Quests!

Quest

Every hero needs one! When demigods gather in one place, it just seems to attract mythical trouble. Campers become the heroes of multi-day adventures. Their decisions shape the story as they search for mystical artifacts, face down legendary monsters, and protect the world from villainous plots.

How Quest Builds

Your demigod will begin getting hints about the week’s Quest early in the week. They might discover strange flyers posted at a camp or find pieces of an artifact in the woods. They might meet a mystic figure who gives them information, or they might have to fend off a monster ambush! They’ll receive a prophecy, maybe directly from an Oracle or maybe through some other means, and eventually, they will be called to action!
