Summer 2025 is the year of Misunderstood Monsters!
Medusa herself has invited an unbelievable roster of monsters to our camp locations – read on below to learn more about the spooky visitors we’ll meet this summer!

Please note: One monster will visit your camp each week of the summer season. To see which monster will be at your camp location on a specific week, please log into your CampSite dashboard and visit the Enrollment tab. There, you will be able to filter our enrollment options by Camp Location and Monster of the Week.

Meet the Monsters!

Arachne

A talented and very proud woman, Arachne challenged the goddess Athena to a weaving contest. Though Athena’s tapestry was beautiful, Arachne’s was even better – and it displayed stories that were embarrassing to the gods. Furious and jealous, Athena took revenge on Arachne by turning her into a spider. What will happen when a sick-and-tired spider teaches a lesson to ungrateful humans? WE would sure be grateful if you joined us to figure it out.

Bigfoot

Bigfoot is a very large, very hairy humanoid creature, usually depicted as brown-, dark red-, or black-furred. He is most often said to live in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. The first sightings of Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, were reported in the 1920s, though his legend may have connections to much older figures in Indigenous North American folklore. What will happen when this size 30 shoe steps out to be a bit more social? Pack up those close-toed size 7’s and register now to track down the mystery.

El Chupacabra

The Chupacabra is a mysterious, dog-like creature, 3-4 feet long, often with reptilian quills or spikes along its back. It’s said to have an alien-like face, striking fear into all those who see it. Encounters with the Chupacabra were first reported in the 1990s in conjunction with the mysterious deaths of goats and other livestock in Puerto Rico. Since then, tales of the Chupacabra have spread across Mexico, the southwestern United States, and beyond… What will happen when an alien hellhound is ordered to diversify his diet? Pack your lunchboxes and register now so we can figure it out.

Echidna, Mother of All Monsters

Echidna is known as the Mother of Monsters, and her children include some of the best-known creatures in Greek mythology: Cerberus, the Chimera, the Hydra, the Nemean Lion, the Sphinx, Ladon who guarded the golden apples of the Hesperides, the eagle that eats Prometheus’s liver, and the Colchian dragon who guarded the Golden Fleece, to name just a few. What will happen when the mother of all monsters becomes a Camp Director for monsters across the lake? Join us next summer on THIS side of the lake to find out!

Hydra

The Hydra is a giant serpent with regenerative powers: when one of its heads is cut off, two spring back up in its place. The Hydra was raised by Hera for the express purpose of killing Heracles – but when Heracles faced the Hydra in the second of his Twelve Labors, he had the help of his nephew Iolaus, who cauterized each neck stump with fire before the heads could re-grow. What will happen when a polycephalous serpent is forced to cut a deal with their sworn enemy? Signing up for a week of camp is the ultimate deal to find this one out.

Mothman

The Mothman is a giant black-furred, red-eyed moth-like creature, first seen and most often associated with West Virginia, though his legend (and sightings) have spread across the country. He is often seen as a “harbinger of doom,” appearing just before disasters and calamities. What will happen when the doom-bringer himself needs help escaping a trap? Escape your own trap of a boring summer and sign up now!

Nessie

The Loch Ness Monster (aka Nessie) is a plesiosaur-like water serpent inhabiting a deep lake in the Scottish Highlands. She may have been in Loch Ness since at least the 6th century, but she first came to worldwide attention in the 1930s. Ever elusive, Nessie spends much of her time evading the enthusiastic mortals seeking proof of her existence. What will happen when the most famous sea monster of all time can no longer preserve her privacy? Consider that Register button to be a guaranteed ticket on the Loch Ness sighting boat.

Nine-Tailed Fox

Several East Asian cultures have stories about supernatural foxes who are either born with nine tails or who acquire those tails over time, as they grow in power. They can be good, evil, or just mischievous. Many are said to live to be 1000 years old, at which time they come into their full power on earth or become golden celestial foxes. What will happen when an impatient, bushy-tailed spirit doesn’t want to wait that long for immortality? We’re getting impatient over here, too! Register for camp now so we can get started!

Polyphemus the Cyclops

Polyphemus is a son of Poseidon, most often remembered for his role in the Odyssey: a violent, cannibalistic shepherd, unintelligent and ferocious. Odysseus gets the better of Polyphemus by pretending his name is “Nobody” – so when the other Cyclopes ask Polyphemus who blinded him, that’s the only answer he can give! Some ancient authors showed another side of him, however, depicting him as a musician and a romantic. What will happen when a half-blind cyclops thinks he is the hero of the story? Sphinx

A lion with the head of a woman, the Sphinx is one of the children of Typhon and Echidna. She was sent by Hera to Thebes, because the city had offended the goddess. The Sphinx stopped travelers, asked them a riddle, and ate them when they could not answer. Eventually, though, the prince Oedipus solved her riddle, and thereafter became King of Thebes. What will happen when a winged half-lion gets fully fed up with her old-school riddles? Speaking of fed up with school, sign up now and start looking forward to summer.

The Great Wolf Fenrir

Fenrir is one of the children of Loki and the frost-giantess Angrobada, and though he started life as a fairly normal wolf pup, he soon grew to phenomenal size. During Ragnarok, the Twilight of the Norse Gods, Fenrir is fated to kill Odin, devour the sun, and either swallow the earth or set it on fire. In an attempt to prevent this, Odin had Fenrir bound with a chain made of impossible materials and imprisoned on a far-off island. What will happen when the Great Wolf finally gets to run free? We’re waiting for you to run to that Register button to find out together.

The Minotaur

A man with the head of a bull, born (under awkward circumstances) to Pasiphae, the wife of King Minos of Crete. Minos then had Daedalus craft the Labyrinth to be the Minotaur’s prison, where he lurked to torment the young men and women sent from Athens as tribute. He was first defeated by Theseus, who took him on either bare-handed or with a sword or club, after the Minotaur’s half-sister Ariadne helped Theseus find his way through the labyrinth. What will happen when the Labyrinth no longer holds its beast, but follows it? Follow that cursor right up to the Register button so we can grab this bull by the horns together.
