You might fit right in with the people of Arcadia – not a town, but a region of Greece filled with lush forests and craggy mountains. Here you might seek for the god Pan in one of his favorite places – or have to face the evil werewolf-king Lycaon. But if you’re an Arcadian, you don’t fear the wilds; you embrace them. You’re happiest when exploring new terrain, breathing fresh air, and proving yourself against the elements. At camp, you love scouting the woods to find clues and chase away any monsters that might creep close! Some might see your bravery as foolhardiness, but that’s only because they aren’t used to your confidence. You know that Arcadia’s bounty is meant for all to enjoy – if they have enough courage.

Atlantis - Wave

The lost city of Atlantis has long been the fascination of many historians and artists, dating all the way back to ancient times. Did it sink into the ocean due to a massive volcanic eruption? Was it a utopian paradise that suffered under its own hubris? Does it have something to do with aliens? Regardless of what you believe about Atlantis, its power over the imaginations of the masses cannot be ignored. To hail from the mysterious Atlantis is to be a mystery yourself. You are not bound by convention. You are constantly thinking outside the box and adding to your own mythos, just like the rest of the world does for your lost city. Demigods of Atlantis are aware of the world’s many mysteries and celebrate them, without trying to unlock them or solve them. They understand how powerful it is to answer a question with a simple, but confident, “I don’t know.” Atlantis is a mystery tied up in an enigma and it always will be.

You are naturally intuitive. Some would call you cautious, but that is simply because you think so far ahead. You feel most comfortable thinking about your place in the universe, consulting the mysterious messages within the stars, and pondering the wonders of the astral plane. You are the person that everyone goes to when they aren’t sure or need a decision to be made. And there’s always a decision to be made. Home of the Oracle herself, the city of Delphi was an epicenter of culture. Ancient peoples considered it the center of the world, and many believe it was protected by Apollo himself. We are the epitome of culture. When others will stop and wonder, we press forward and look for a new way of thinking about a situation. We find our answers in the subtle nuances of the world unseen by the average demigod. We embrace the weird, not for weirdness’s sake, but because weird is a necessity. Our Delphic minds allow us to look at the world in a way no one else can.

The people of Mycenae know that glory and heroism are nothing without sacrifice. You care little about the perception of others and will stop at nothing in your pursuit of the greater good, even if that means walking the path of darkness. Your ambition is your driving force and your weapon is knowledge. Mycenaeans volunteer for quests of all kinds, to participate as well as observe. A favorite of the god Hades, the ancient city of Mycenae was a major stronghold in Greece long before places like Sparta and Athens existed, and its influence is still felt throughout the world. From unearthing ancient scrolls to defeating ancient trolls, we will stop at nothing to achieve our goals, especially the goals we keep to ourselves. Our ambition and influence are felt in almost every decision made at Camp Half-Blood. Often MVPs of the small council, your great empathy, and understanding of voice lets you perceive the true intent of any creature that you may encounter. Mycenaeans make for the best of friends but can become the most dangerous of enemies.

Thebes – Comedy and Tragedy Masks

Nothing gets to your brain without first going through your heart. You see the motivations of those both on your side and in your way. You understand that thoughts and feelings are the ultimate weapons. With your words, you can move mountains, and through emotion, you can best any foe! The birthplace of the god of theater and wine, Dionysus, marks Thebes as a place with creativity and chaos in its DNA. We can turn even the most mundane activity into a celebration. We see that the journey can be the destination. We are inclined to the life of the bard and naturally gifted songsmiths and tale-tellers. We are always working on the next big art installation for camp, or we’re composing a beautiful ballad to sing monsters onto our side. When the going gets tough and the rest of the camp seems at the end of their rope after a hard quest, we are the light that carries everyone else through the dark night!

Argos - Peacock

Are you often more cautious than those around you? Do you prefer to have all the information you can gather before making a decision? You may belong in Argos, a city founded by and named for all-seeing Argus. Here, the citizens are watchful and think before acting. Your careful ways don’t make you any less powerful: your heroism soars because you take the time to plan your actions, whether on the Olympic field or the field of battle. You choose your allies carefully, too, and for that reason, you are extremely loyal.

Hyperborea - Mountains

Are you the sort of demigod who saves lost kittens, rescues turtles, or tends a garden? Your compassion and care for the natural world mean that you may belong in Hyperborea, a strange and beautiful town hidden in wind-swept mountains, a land so remote even the North Wind cannot find it, and no ordinary mortal can find their way to its sanctuary. Hyperborea welcomes only those willing to pledge themselves to the defense of its plants and animals. Those who live in Hyperborea do not love combat and violence the way some others do, but they will never fail to protect their magical homeland. Sparta’s innate ability to consistently win wars (the Peloponnesian and Persian wars, to name a few) have made it the personal favorite of Ares. Thus, we always wake up each morning to the smell of hot iron at the forge. We never cower from a challenge, no matter how big! And we are always the first on the field during a siege. This is because we are disciplined warriors who respect the orders of our generals and never underestimate the enemy. We win because we work hard to ensure that things are absolutely perfect. Spartans are feared, but not cruel. Powerful, but not power-hungry. Warriors, but not killers. Spartans are the protectors of camp. Will you join them?

You are sword fighters, athletes, poets, storytellers, even gamers. You’re a little bit of everything. After all, why put all of your eggs in one basket? Ithaca was known for producing some of the most chaotically best and brightest, much like their most famous king and beloved patron of Hermes, Odysseus. Like Odysseus, we are jacks and jills of all trades. We sword fight, we play games, we study – or we’re up in the clouds, thinking about our next mission. When we don’t have our hands in literally every basket that Camp Half-Blood has to offer, we’re collaborating and creating things to make camp better. We know a little about everything because too much of one thing is boring to an Ithacan.

Syracuse – Greek Crown

You are a natural-born leader. You feel most comfortable when you are leading your team to victory. You don’t make rash decisions – instead, you study the entire situation from top to bottom. People feel as though they can trust your judgment because you always seem to know what you’re talking about (even if you might not)! Truly a place of kings, the city of Syracuse’s history was fraught with wars, but it always survived – most likely due to the strength of its citizens and their devotion to Zeus, king of the gods. While most assume we are people of action, and we are, we never act without thinking. Some may put pressure on us to make decisions, but we always trust our instincts and weigh our options where we can. We know everyone and their skills and how best to work with them on any given quest. Our Syracusian heart makes us leaders, but our Syracusian compassion makes us loved by those we lead.

Alexandria – Pharaoh Headdress

The City of Alexandria has always been a city of great importance, dating all the way back to its capture by Alexander the Great and its restoration by Augustus Caesar. Though many know of the Alexandria that was ruled by the Greeks, it spent most of its ancient lifespan under the control of the Romans – and it played an important role in the rise of Imperial Rome. Alexandria was home to Cleopatra, one of the most beloved rulers of Egypt and descendant of General Ptolemy, who conquered Alexandria along with Alexander the Great. Her intelligence was unmatched by a vast number of her contemporaries. Eventually, it was conquered by Octavian, and made part of the Roman Empire. Afterwards, it became the epicenter of Rome-controlled Egypt, an important producer of food for the Roman Empire, and a place that many credit for the length of the Empire’s influence. Though many attribute it and its “library” to the Greeks, it was only under Roman control that the city truly prospered into a powerhouse that lasted centuries.

INFLUENCE

Londinium – Rushing River

If Londinium sounds vaguely familiar, it is because, in the modern day, we call it London. Formerly rolling hills beside the River Thames, Londinium would not be established until the Roman conquest of Britain. And even then, it had humble beginnings as a small village or even a Roman military camp. However, due to its amazing setup alongside the river, it would grow to become the most important city of Roman-occupied Britain and most likely served as its capital! It expanded rapidly, holding thousands upon thousands of citizens. But with that expansion came frequent attacks and invasions from the Pictish, Britons, and the like. This did not top Londinium though – they simply built a massive stone wall to keep those invaders out! Like the empire that founded it, Londinium always found a way to survive and thrive, no matter who tried to prove otherwise. Londinium stands as a symbol of the resilience and staying power of the Roman Empire, even in a place as far and as foreign as the Isle of Britain.

Sicilia - Pine Cone

Do you have a wide circle of friends, who may not all have much in common with each other? Do you love learning new things, trying new foods, playing new games? You might fit right in with the citizens of Sicilia. This province has been home to many different peoples and part of many different nations in its history. Sometimes, that’s led to a lot of trouble: uprisings, invasions, and war. But Sicilia made the most of the chaos. Its people spoke many languages, practiced many arts, and prospered because of their diversity. Sicilia proves that no matter what trials you face, you can always pick yourself up and become something incredible, part of a magnificent tapestry of life. At camp, Sicilians are always up for new activities and adventures!

Perseverance

Byzantium – Eight-Pointed Star and Crescent

The city of Byzantium’s beginnings are shrouded in legend and mystery. It began with the legendary explorer Byzas, who was told by the Oracle of Delphi that he should “look for a land opposite to the city of the blind.” With support from the king of his homeland, Megara, Byzas set sail and claimed his home near another city on Asian shores, Chalcedon. Byzas determined that that must be the city of the blind, as they had not taken advantage of the European coast so close to them. Throughout its history, Byzantium proved to be an important region as a trading city, since it was located at the Black Sea’s only entrance! So much so that… well… everyone kind of fought over them. It didn’t truly rise to greatness until it was conquered by Septimus Severus, where it became one of Rome’s most defensible strongholds and later part of the Roman capital of Nova Roma. Surrounded by water, with a stronghold over trading in its region, Byzantium is a city with staying power and everyone wishes they could take a piece.

CROSSROADS

Pompeii - Volcano

It takes a lot of nerve to live in the shadow of a volcano – but that’s what the citizens of Pompeii do! You’re someone who laughs in the face of danger because even when things go terribly wrong, you keep going, knowing that something good can come from loss. Just as Pompeii was rediscovered, allowing the modern world to learn so much about its ancient roots, you always bounce back from defeat, ready to face the world again. You’re always willing to try something new, because you know that failure is hero food – but the risk just might be worth the reward. This makes you formidable at camp, fearless and fierce, ready to take on any challenge.

Carthage - Wheat

Do you see possibility everywhere you look? In Carthage, you’ll find others who think like you: imaginative, inventive, unstoppable! Whether it’s coming up with a new strategy for a game, developing a genius alteration to your armor, or finding inspiration for wild theories in hidden clues, like Carthage’s legendary founder, Dido, you are not afraid to chart your own path in the world, and you’ll use your wits to flourish. The nation of Carthage supported the world with its abundance, and you contribute your creativity and enterprising spirit to your hometown!

The city where it all began, founded by the children of a wolf and grew to a massive empire that lasted over one thousand years. It is said that the great city of Roma began when the brothers, Romulus and Remus, raised by the she-wolf, Lupe, set out to build a city of their own. After a divine bird-based disagreement on where to build this city, Romulus killed Remus, and thus, Roma was established and named after him! He went on to build a powerful kingdom that would later grow to be one of the most iconic and long-lasting empires throughout history. Roma has always been a place of power and prosperity. It is here that the Romans grew their military strength, their cultural legacy, and first paid their respects to their gods. Without it, our modern world would not have the language, art, or culture that it does today. Its innovations changed the world, and we benefit from them today. Even its Republic (before it evolved into a powerful empire) would go on to inspire some of the powerhouses of the modern day. Roma is not just a city. It’s an idea. An idea that the rest of the Western world owes its many achievements to.

Alexandria – Pharaoh Headdress

The City of Alexandria has always been a city of great importance, dating all the way back to its capture by Alexander the Great and its restoration by Augustus Caesar. Though many know of the Alexandria that was ruled by the Greeks, it spent most of its ancient lifespan under the control of the Romans – and it played an important role in the rise of Imperial Rome. Alexandria was home to Cleopatra, one of the most beloved rulers of Egypt and descendant of General Ptolemy, who conquered Alexandria along with Alexander the Great. Her intelligence was unmatched by a vast number of her contemporaries. Eventually, it was conquered by Octavian, and made part of the Roman Empire. Afterwards, it became the epicenter of Rome-controlled Egypt, an important producer of food for the Roman Empire, and a place that many credit for the length of the Empire’s influence. Though many attribute it and its “library” to the Greeks, it was only under Roman control that the city truly prospered into a powerhouse that lasted centuries.

This makes you formidable at camp, fearless and fierce, ready to take on any challenge.

Do you have a wide circle of friends, who may not all have much in common with each other? Do you love learning new things, trying new foods, playing new games? You might fit right in with the citizens of Sicilia. This province has been home to many different peoples and part of many different nations in its history. Sometimes, that’s led to a lot of trouble: uprisings, invasions, and war. But Sicilia made the most of the chaos. Its people spoke many languages, practiced many arts, and prospered because of their diversity. Sicilia proves that no matter what trials you face, you can always pick yourself up and become something incredible, part of a magnificent tapestry of life. At camp, Sicilians are always up for new activities and adventures!

Byzantium – Eight-Pointed Star and Crescent

The city of Byzantium’s beginnings are shrouded in legend and mystery. It began with the legendary explorer Byzas, who was told by the Oracle of Delphi that he should “look for a land opposite to the city of the blind.” With support from the king of his homeland, Megara, Byzas set sail and claimed his home near another city on Asian shores, Chalcedon. Byzas determined that that must be the city of the blind, as they had not taken advantage of the European coast so close to them. Throughout its history, Byzantium proved to be an important region as a trading city, since it was located at the Black Sea’s only entrance! So much so that… well… everyone kind of fought over them. It didn’t truly rise to greatness until it was conquered by Septimus Severus, where it became one of Rome’s most defensible strongholds and later part of the Roman capital of Nova Roma. Surrounded by water, with a stronghold over trading in its region, Byzantium is a city with staying power and everyone wishes they could take a piece.

CROSSROADS

Londinium – Rushing River

If Londinium sounds vaguely familiar, it is because, in the modern day, we call it London. Formerly rolling hills beside the River Thames, Londinium would not be established until the Roman conquest of Britain. And even then, it had humble beginnings as a small village or even a Roman military camp. However, due to its amazing setup alongside the river, it would grow to become the most important city of Roman-occupied Britain and most likely served as its capital! It expanded rapidly, holding thousands upon thousands of citizens. But with that expansion came frequent attacks and invasions from the Pictish, Britons, and the like. This did not top Londinium though – they simply built a massive stone wall to keep those invaders out! Like the empire that founded it, Londinium always found a way to survive and thrive, no matter who tried to prove otherwise. Londinium stands as a symbol of the resilience and staying power of the Roman Empire, even in a place as far and as foreign as the Isle of Britain.
